It belongs to the category of armoatic rice, Indica subspecies. In Hindi, basmati means "fragrant": the waters of the Himalayan glaciers and the conditions of the soil give it a delicate aroma and flavour. 
This variety cultivated in India is suitable for Oriental recipes, pilaf, side dishes and sweets.
