It enhances the cleaning action of detergents, degreases, and deodorizes laundry. Lye was traditionally produced from ash and used for laundry and household cleaning. Its effectiveness was due to the presence of carbonates, which provide a degreasing, cleansing, and whitening action. Sodium carbonate can be considered the new lye. In fact, thanks to its degreasing and cleansing properties, when added to every wash, it is recommended for enhancing the effectiveness of detergents, removing stubborn stains, and neutralizing persistent odors.
